Question to the Chief Executive                 Council Meeting 3rd November 2025

Q.4       COUNCILLOR CIARAN O MEACHAIR

To ask the Chief Executive for an update to two lighting requests in Inchicore (details supplied)

Details Supplied: PBL656646932, PBL656648798

CHIEF EXECUTIVE’S REPLY:

Details Supplied relates to ground uplighters in details supplied and PBL656648798 relates to a ground uplighter in details supplied.

Regarding both locations the existing uplighters have become unmaintainable. One uplighter at each location has been removed that will allow suitable replacements to be identified from a lighting manufacturer that will fit into the existing bases.

Unfortunately, as these uplighters are nonstandard items it can take 10 weeks or so to take delivery of them (upon placement of an order) so it is unlikely this replacement work will be carried out this side of Christmas.

Intial Article

The CIE Hall has been in contact with Dublin City Council since October 2024, with a request to fix the uplight at the Wheel Monument within the CIE Works and the uplighters at the base of the old wall around the Model School.

One of the calls open with Dublin City Council, to their lighting department, was recently closed and marked as resolved. The simple reality is that nothing was done and the lighting was been defective for the past 2-3 years.

THe CIE Hall has now made a big push with Local politicans and councillors to help resolve the situation and we are heartened by the really proactive approache being made to Dublin City Council.

Progress has been incredibly slow and we hoped the lighting issues would be resolved before Halloween.

Today, we are been made aware throught, Cllr. Michael Pidgeon, of an update as follows: “PBL656646932 relates to ground uplighters in Grattan Crescent and PBL656648798 relates to a ground uplighter in Inchicore Parade.

“Regarding both locations the existing uplighters have become unmaintainable. One uplighter at each location has been removed that will allow suitable replacements to be identified from a lighting manufacturer that will fit into the existing bases.

“Unfortunately, as these uplighters are nonstandard items it can take 10 weeks or so to take delivery of them (upon placement of an order) so it is unlikely this replacement work will be carried out this side of Christmas.”

A further update is being sought at the November 2025 meeting of Dublin City Council through our local representatives.

Many thanks to the following for their efforts in shining a bright light into dark places:
