An exceptionally important video screening was held within the Long Hall of the Inchicore Sports and Social Club on Wednesday 7 May 2025.
Yousef Al-Helou screened his film that documented his country, his beautiful country, before it was ravaged by Israeli aggression and utter annihilation.
Participants within the gathering were emotional as they bore witness to a bustling way of life, a proud people and a very beautiful cityscape.
It is clear why Israel will not allow Western journalists freely enter Gaza.
This landscape now resembles a moon like topography – inhumanely, brutally and savagely pulverised by expensive Western weaponary. Comparing the current cityscape against footage from Yousef’s film is horrifically beyond humane comprehension.
The Q&A session was particularly difficult for some. Our hearts truly went out to the 2 Palestinian girls who arrived in Ireland, from Gaza, over the past few weeks. A few minutes of the film could only be suffered before they quickly departed our Long Hall, flooded by grief and tears, weeping in near silence the words, “It’s all gone”.
Yousef is a remarkable, quiet, humble individual with exquisite manners. He outlined how his sister and some of his relations are still buried under rubble to this day.
Even with an unimaginable burden on his shoulders, he maintains an air of powerful grace, consumate dignity, fierce defiance and amplifies the best qualities that humanity has to offer.
Thank you to all patrons who turned out in solidarity with Yousef, his clan and his people.
A special shout out to Hamza of Gaza Kitchen, to Peyman for assisting Yousef and to Joanna Rooney and Aodhán Collins and Catherine Lane for organising the event.
Free, Free, Palestine.
Yousef appeared on RTÉ’s Primetime program the night before appearing in the Inchicore Sports and Social Club.
